How To Use Dual SIM and eSIM on iPhone?

Is it possible to have two phone numbers without having to carry two mobile phones? You have probably asked yourself this question too often. Indeed, it could be a real annoyance, but I want to reassure you because there is a very practical and comfortable solution.
I’m talking about the Dual SIM functionality, undoubtedly one of the most appreciated by mobile smartphone owners, perfect for those with two phone numbers. The Dual SIM is very popular especially among those who travel a lot abroad and who use the most suitable card based on the country in which they are located, thus avoiding the (sometimes disproportionate) costs of international roaming. If you are one of them too, I really recommend that you equip yourself with a smartphone with Dual SIM, so that you no longer have to worry.
How do you say? Do you have an iPhone and not an Android phone? No problem, because from 2018 the Cupertino giant has also decided to switch to Dual SIM, offering this feature on different models. However, the company of CEO Tim Cook does not provide two slots for two different SIMs, as is the case with Android smartphones.
What is an eSIM and how it works
If you’ve already done a search to see if there are really no iPhones with two physical support slots, you’ve probably already discovered the truth. If not, I’ll tell you: the only iPhones with this structure are those sold in the markets of Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, because there is no eSIM in these places.
If you are thinking of buying a dual-slot iPhone in China to use in Italy, stop right away: this is a useless move because the model is designed to work with the Chinese network. In our country, you would end up with a phone with precarious or even non-existent functionality.
Having said that, let’s come to us. The eSIM is nothing more than a digital SIM that provides you with two different phone plans. Fantastic isn’t it? Up to a certain point, because in Italy not all operators support this functionality, so the first thing you will have to do is find a manager that supports the eSIM.
Among these are TIM, Vodafone, and WindTre, while Very Mobile is the only low-cost operator that allows you to buy it online. All these managers provide eSIM plans that you can consult to choose the one that best suits your needs.
The digital SIM is already integrated into the device, but before proceeding, you must make sure that both operators do not prevent the possibility of setting the device with a different operator. The configuration on the iPhones is quite simple: all you have to do is go to the Settings menu and click on Cellular and then indicate the name of the two lines. Tap on Piano Label and choose one of the three modes of use.
iPhone with Dual SIM: all models
As I mentioned at the beginning, Apple offers Dual SIM (albeit with digital SIM, always better to remember) on different iPhone models. To be more precise, all the phones launched by the Cupertino giant from 2018 onwards guarantee support for this feature.
But what exactly are these models? I must first of all start with the latest iPhones launched by Apple, or the iPhone 12, presented in October last year. In addition to the many features and a high-level technical data sheet, the four models of iPhone 12 (iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the “standard” model) allow you to have two cellular plans thanks to the eSIM.
The same goes for the iPhone 11, or the “iPhone by” presented by the Californian company in 2019. Dual-SIM functionality is therefore guaranteed on iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Furthermore, you can also take advantage of the potential of the eSIM on other phones that Apple has released from 2018 onwards, namely iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and iPhone SE (second edition).
